Terms of Use
Last updated: October 24, 2026
These Terms of Use are the agreement between you and Pop the Q LLC, trading as Big Moments Company (“we,” “us”), which operates Your Friend Ian (“Ian”). They cover the Ian website at yourfriendian.com, the Ian apps for iPhone and Android, and Ian Premium. By creating an account or using Ian, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Ian.
1. Who can use Ian
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is older, and able to enter into this agreement. Each account belongs to one person. Use an email address you control, keep your inbox secure, and don’t share your sign-in links. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
2. What Ian does, and what it doesn’t
Ian suggests local events, places, and activities, helps you plan outings, and keeps your saved plans, calendar, and reminders in one place. Suggestions are created automatically, often with the help of AI, from public listings and the details you share. They can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong.
Ian does not book tickets, make reservations, or organize the events it suggests. Always check times, prices, location, accessibility, age rules, weather, and safety directly with the venue or organizer before you go. Venues, events, and other businesses operate under their own terms, and anything you buy from them is a separate agreement with that seller. A Premium membership never covers admission, tickets, food, travel, or other costs of an outing.
3. The free plan and your Premium welcome
Ian is free to use. The free plan includes up to 10 personalized outing plans every 30 days, with up to 2 plans per 24 hours. Each plan shows 3 ideas to choose from, plus a preview of one more. Shuffling for more ideas is part of Premium.
Every new account starts with a 14-day welcome period that includes Premium-level planning, as described in section 4, at no cost. The welcome lasts 14 days, or until 24 hours after you make your third plan if that is later, and never more than 60 days after you create your account. The welcome is not a free trial of a subscription. It doesn’t require a payment method, never turns into a paid subscription, and never charges you. When it ends, your account moves to the free plan automatically, and your saved plans, calendar, and reminders stay yours.
In the future, the free plan in our mobile apps may include advertising. Ads are not shown during your welcome period or to Premium members.
5. Automatic renewal and cancellation
Premium renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. Payment is charged when you confirm your purchase and again at each renewal. Cancelling stops future renewals. You keep Premium until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then your account returns to the free plan with your saved content intact.
How you cancel depends on where you subscribed, as described below. Deleting your Ian account cancels a subscription bought on our website, but it does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Those must be cancelled in the store where you bought them.
6. Subscriptions bought through Apple’s App Store
If you subscribe in the Ian app for iPhone or iPad, Apple processes your payment. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. Your subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings, under Subscriptions.
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under its policies. We can’t issue refunds for purchases Apple processed. To request one, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
7. Subscriptions bought through Google Play
If you subscribe in the Ian app for Android, Google Play processes your payment and it is charged to your Google Play payment method. Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel. You can manage or cancel it at any time in the Google Play Store app under Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Premium until the end of the current period.
Refunds for Google Play purchases follow Google Play’s policies. You can request one through Google Play, and you can also email us and we will help where we can.
8. Subscriptions bought on our website
If you subscribe on yourfriendian.com, our payment processor, Stripe, handles your payment. Recurring billing only starts after you approve the Stripe checkout, and your payment method is charged at the start of each period. You can cancel at any time from Membership in your Ian account by choosing “Manage or cancel subscription.” Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
Website payments are not refundable for partial periods, except where the law requires otherwise. If you were charged by mistake or something went wrong, email us within 30 days and we will make it right.
9. Price changes
We may change Premium prices from time to time. We will tell you before a new price applies to your subscription, and it will only take effect at a future renewal. For App Store and Google Play subscriptions, the store notifies you and asks for your consent when its rules require it. If you don’t want to pay the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.
10. Local sources and community suggestions
Ian can point you to community groups, local pages, and accounts related to your interests, and you can save them or ask Ian to follow them. Ian does not connect to your social media accounts, join groups for you, or read private conversations or member lists. Following a source is a request that we review. We may decline any request, and we can’t guarantee that a source will be followed, stay available, or list a particular event. Only submit links you have the right to share, and respect each group’s own rules.
11. Text messages
Text-message suggestions and reminders are optional and are covered by our separate text message terms. Reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.
12. Your content and ours
You keep ownership of what you add to Ian, such as your preferences, plans, notes, and links. You give us permission to store and use it as needed to run the features you ask for, as described in our Privacy Policy. We won’t use your private content in public marketing.
We use account, plan, calendar, delivery and verified subscription records to operate Ian and provide support through a restricted team portal. Optional website interaction measurement has its own analytics choice and does not affect access to the service. See the Privacy Policy’s account operations and analytics sections for what is recorded, team access, retention and your choices. Daily questions are optional and do not open an ongoing support chat.
Ian’s name, the otter character and artwork, our designs, and our software belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable license to use Ian for its intended purpose. Don’t copy, resell, or reverse-engineer the service, or impersonate Ian.
13. Acceptable use
Don’t use Ian to harass, stalk, threaten, or discriminate against anyone; for fraud, spam, or anything unlawful; to scrape or harvest data; to get around plan limits or security measures; or to access accounts that aren’t yours. Don’t submit other people’s private information without permission. We may remove content or suspend or close accounts that break these rules, put others at risk, or where the law requires it. Where practical, we will tell you why and give you a way to reach us.
14. Your safety
Choose outings that suit your abilities and circumstances, and use ordinary precautions, especially when meeting people or going somewhere new. Ian does not monitor you while you’re out and is not emergency, medical, legal, or safety advice. In an emergency, contact local emergency services.
15. Disclaimers and limits on liability
We work hard to keep Ian useful and available, but it is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we don’t promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, that suggestions will be accurate, or that any event will happen as listed.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for what happens at venues and events we don’t run. Our total liability for any claim relating to Ian is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Ian in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $50. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can’t be waived, or our liability for fraud or willful misconduct.
16. Ending your use
You can stop using Ian at any time and can delete your account from Delete account. Remember to cancel any App Store or Google Play subscription in the store first. We may suspend or end access for serious or repeated violations of these terms. If we ever discontinue Ian, we will give you reasonable notice, and we will refund the unused part of any yearly subscription bought on our website.
17. Governing law and disputes
Please talk to us first. Email us and give us 30 days to try to resolve the problem before taking any other action. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. If you live outside the United States, you keep any rights the consumer laws of your home country give you, including the right to bring a claim in your local courts. These terms do not require arbitration or waive your right to join a class action.
18. Additional terms for the App Store and Google Play
If you downloaded Ian from Apple’s App Store, you and we also agree that:
- This agreement is between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Ian and its content.
- Your license to use Ian is limited to Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- We, not Apple, are solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for Ian. Apple has no obligation to do so.
- If Ian fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, that you paid for the app. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Ian.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Ian or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that Ian fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws.
- If a third party claims that Ian or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and resolving that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any applicable third-party terms, such as your wireless carrier’s agreement, when using Ian.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
If you downloaded Ian from Google Play, Google Play’s Terms of Service also apply to your download and purchases, and Google is not responsible for Ian or its content.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Ian changes. We will post the new date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Ian after a change takes effect, the updated terms apply. If you don’t agree, you can cancel and stop using Ian.
